Change Dimension Values on Posted Transactions

Hi, One of our clients have ‘Division’ as a Dimension (Global Dimension).Earlier the same was made ‘Value mandatory’ on the Item Card. With this, a number of transactions were posted. Now thy have made it ‘Same Code’ and it is working fine. The issue is: Whatever Postings done earlier on Sales/Transfer/Purchase etc. for that item, Wrong Dimension COdes are to be corrected to get proper P/L statements. Has any body done this kind of exercise earlier. How safe it is to chnage the dimension values on all posted transactions like Sales Line, Invoic Line, Posted shipment line, Posted Value entries,Posted Item ledger entries, Value entries, Document dimension Table, G/L Entries and all other related entries ?(For particular items only). Regards, DD

It’s pretty safe. Dimensions have no purpose except for reporting. If you write your code correctly, you won’t run into any issues. Make sure you update analysis views if you have any.

Hi, What would be the tables that need to be taken care in such a scenario? Would it cause any problem if you miss out updating any table where old value is not replaced?

It’s pretty safe if you know what you are doing. If you miss a table, you could have issues: (a) with your subledgers being out of balance with your G/L by Dimension (b) Change Global Dimensions periodic reseting some of the values (most people don’t use this one) (c) Inventory Periodic not picking up the correct dimensions.

If you have to ask, then you probably shouldn’t be changing this stuff? Note that this is posted in the End-User forum…There is no way an end-user can change dimensions unless they have the Solution Developer Granuale in their license.
