C/ODBC Reliability In Version 2.60

What the current status (2.60) of C/ODBC, last time I evaluated it, it was for version 1.30 and I was not particulary impressed at the time. Is it now a fully compliant ODBC driver ? Will it accept all SQL Query without moaning ? Will it be able to handle a complex report developed in Crystal report, which ultimately will send complex query to Navision’s C/ODBC, will it be to cope with those now ? tarek_demiati@ureach.com

Errrrr… nope. It should be a “thnx for trying and continue playing…”. Don’t worry… you can obtain a full SQL compliant available connection to Navision’s database… just need using the SQL version :stuck_out_tongue: – Alfonso Pertierra apertierra@teleline.es Spain

The words OCBC and Reliability are absolutely contrary You could even go so far to say it’s an Oxymoron An Oxymoron is defined as a composed word, consisting of two words which oppose each other. Such as sweet-sour or Microsoft Works ------- With best regards from Switzerland Marcus Fabian

This is why I don’t like Navision. If this C/ODBC driver was half good, my job would be a lot easier  Come on Navision?!

What do you need ODBCfor? in the last 4 1/2 years I work with Navision I only used ODBC for playing, trying or doing some quick-and-dirty data transfers. ------- With best regards from Switzerland Marcus Fabian

Or if you desperately need working with word/Excel… etc, why don’t you just try using automations? (i’ll ever prefer controlling another program from my code rather than other program taking all data it wants from my database…) Regards – Alfonso Pertierra apertierra@teleline.es Spain

What tool do you use Marcus? Dave Studebaker das@libertyforever

To achieve what? Automation if MAPI, Excel or Word is involved, Linked tables with Access and flat files whenever appropriate. ODBC has too many trawbacks:- It’s absolutely unstable.

  • MS Query is the least reliable tool I’ve ever seen.
  • Whenever a new NF version is installed you have to re-install ODBC driver as well
