Hi All,
First off, sorry for the lengthy post, just trying to provide adequate information to enable the best responses
Historically, when we implemented NAV 3.? we used two dimensions. Dim 1 was “dept” and Dim 2 was “cust grp”
We upgraded from NAV 5 through to NAV 2013 R2 last year. Our partner migrated us to NAV 2009 and then directly to 2013 R2 therefor we never operated on NAV 2009.
Current dimensions are GD1 Dept, GD2 Sales Prod Grp, Shortcut dimension code 3 Cust grp, and Shortcut dimension code 4 Proj Grp.
Now I would like to implement Jobs, Resources, Service and the Cost Accounting modules. I could change and use G Dim 2 if necessary to facilitate better structure and reporting, if necessary. What would this entail? I noticed that when trying to edit and change the G dim 2 in a test environment, the system wanted to rename all of the historical records and indicated that the task would be complete in a week. (there are over a 2.3 million records to update) Does the system re-write over the existing records? Is there a method of retaining the historical information already posted?
We are primarily project based, but looking to grow more into production based for some of our products. I am looking to be able to report via Jet Essentials or Account schedules the revenues, and costs of projects which will include all WO’s and in future Jobs, that role up to the top level Projects. I also want to enter project budgets and report on budget to actual on a monthly, ytd, and project to date basis as many of our projects span more that one fiscal year.
I look to the “experts” to provide feedback on how I should approach this for the most effective use of the software, as the posts the I have searched are all several years old, and not from our version of NAV
