Hi, We’re running Navision Attain using the Navision database engine (not MS SQL Server). We’ve gotting approval to upgrade the server, but I haven’t been able to find much information regarding proper sizing of this server. Can anyone provide a link where I can find more information? More info on the existing system: 4 GB database ~60 concurrent users (expecting another 20-30 this year) Thanks, Ken McCord MIS Manager A.C. Coin and Slot
Your sizing depends on the amouts of transactions. You have a small database compared to the number of users. Can You tell us a little about numbers of invoices, items, orders and so on? Without knowing anything about the above I would say: - Single CPU - 1GB RAM (~750 for cache) - 10 disks in RAID-1 - pair 0: OS and exe’s - pair 1: db01.fdb - pair 2: db02.fdb - pair 3: db03.fdb - pair 4: db03.fdb Maybe more disks (and database parts) if You have a lot of transactions, but then again, You didn’t have such a big database.
Here’s some data on a select group of tables: Table No.Table Name No. of Records Record Size Size (KB) 21 Cust. Test environment will most likely be kept on the old server. We don’t expect to move off the proprietary database engine for several years - does the Navision database utilize multiple processors? I noticed you spec’d only 1 cpu. Thanks again, Ken
No. It’s no use buying more than 1 CPU. How long time have You been running the system (just so I know how long i took You to create the data above)?
We’ve been on Navision since July 2000, but most growth has occurred in the last two years.
