Attain and Bar coding

What is the best way of using Bar coding in Attain (for distribution control)?? Need some pointers.

What do you want to do? Are we talking shop floor control, inventory control, or anything more specific? There’s a great deal out there, but you need to be more specific in your question on this topic. ???

Need to find solution for inventory control at point of receiving and shipping using Navision Attain (with/without Warehouse functions)

Lockwc : Maybe you can check out the WelchAllyn type 3470LR system, it seems pretty neat … Check Michal Dano post regarding this system on : http://www.navision.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=223&FORUM_ID=10&CAT_ID=3&Topic_Title=Bar+Code&Forum_Title=Attain%2FFinancials+-+Integration+Forum Cheers, Tarek ###### tarek_demiati@ureach.com

Hi, Great I’m looking for this question too. Would a barcoder device would work like a INPUT work the same way like keyboard does ? So, when I want to do sales with Item tracking, I just use my barcoder instead of keyboard, and perhaps my S/N will be automatically shown? Please advise, thanks. Andre - Yes - Most barcode readers, are in fact just a keyboard. //Henrik Helgesen -: KISS::Keep it Simple, Stupid :-

To have a barcode reader that feeds input to the program as though the input came from the keyboard, you want what is called a “wedge”. That is a reader with a connection that will allow the reader to plug into the keyboard port, and the keyboardto plug into the reader … or the logical equivalent thereof. There are many, many brands of wedges and almost all major bar code equipment manufacturers make wedges. The receiving computer cannot tell where the input characters came from and assumes they come from the keyboard. Now, in addition, your barcodes and the barcode reading algorithm must be set up so that the data being passed to the PC is exactly the same as what would be keyboarded in. Some barcodes, for example, include a check digit and you want to make sure the check digit is stripped off before passing the code to the PC. It’s easy, but you do have to do it correctly. Beyond the connection, you must be concerned about issues such as type of reading device (wand, CCD, Laser) and perhaps even more important the bar code label printer and type of media used for the labels. The whole set of hardware constitutes a system and each must be compatible with each other and with the specific application. there is one more thing that you should not forget is installing bar code fonts… when using bar code for navision

We are distributors of a Barcode Manufacture and can arrange the scanners. This scanner is easy to use with Navision…

A vast array of barcode fonts are available for download from the Navision Adv. Distribution product CD.

True, the fonts are there but I couldn’t see any documentation for them. Okay, Code39 doesn’t need any (get your string and slap a * on each end before you print it) but for anything else like I2/5 or EAN you need to know where each cipher is located in the font set. Cheers, John
