Environment: Win2003, MS SQL 2000 SP3, Nav 3.6. Whenever a user logs in thru terminalserver, it asks for installation cd. Any ideas how to fix that?
The problem usually doesnt arise with administrator login for OS. Give the end user super user rights for the Operating system for once. Login. IF it doesnt complain Then remove super user rights. COntinue as usual. Its some thing to do with Operating system.
Open the Navision folder, and drag a ShortCut on the desktop, use this to run Navision, NOT the one that the install program creates in the start menu.
None of these helped. Any other ideas?
Hi, I think there is a special installation method when installing Navision on a terminal server. The ordinary way (clicking on Setup file) doesn’t work 100%. I think you should be able to get this from Navision or your NSC. Regards Daniel

You have to make ShortCut on desktop for each user. You can go to “C:\Documents and Settings\user1\Desktop” , “C:\Documents and Settings\user2\Desktop” … and create shortcut to fin.exe.
When installing on WTS/Citrix You must use the special installation script for this. What this script does for You is to copy the files and register the dll’s. It also fixes the Company notes and installs MDAC. If You search this forum for SQL and 3.70 You’ll find the script. Just paste it to a cmd-file and go (maybe change some folder names first). After that install You create a shortcut to fin.exe or finsql.exe. Put the shortcut in the Start Menu folder for “All users” and everything will work just fine. (Shouldn’t this be in some kind of FAQ…)
I had this exact same issue. I did the following :- Install Navision via the normal citrix installation method ( as pointed out above ), then make a copy of the whole navision directory. Uninstalled Navision, and then copied the directory back into its original location. Created a shortcut to navision within startup ( I pointed it to c:\Program Files\Navision Attain\Client\finsql.exe ), and this stopped asking for the nav installation files. I also added a zup file setting, but thats just me
Zed, this is not a good solution, since you will have problems with copanynotes and online help that do require registry entries.
I agree that you do need to use the special installation script provided by MBS if installing Navision on a WTS/Citrix. As always, it does cause a problem. The problems occurs if you later need to install C/Front. C/Front will not work when the Navision Client is installed using the special installation script - The test Sample file you run to test your C/Front install will fail. You can even test this on a another computer. We have a client that wants to install Jet Reports on there Terminal Server. This is currently not possible due to our installation of Navision using the special installation script.
Personally I have not liked the special script, and avoid using it when ever possible. I have had no problems, just installing as administrator, then running FIN from a short cut. Just make sure that MS Office is installed BEFORE you install Navision.
But what happens when a user goes for the F1 when You do like this.
