Hello, This question often appears on Navision.Net & I’m afraid that the only answer is to look at the Application Designers Guide on the Navision CD, attend some Navision developer couses & take a copy of the base product apart to see how it works. Navision generaly assume that people who develop in Navision will have had development from previous experience. Edward, I have also been looking for a book that explains C/AL concepts for creating Navision reports but cannot seem to see them anywhere. The material you suggest is good but has very little by way of example code. I have tried to analyse existing reports for the fundamentals for statement structures; which has been useful in creating simple reports. Do you know of any website that shows (and explains)C/Al programming?
Hello Mohinder, I’m afraid that I’m not aware of a book that explains the concepts of C/AL. If there was, I woudl be first in line to buy a copy! In most cases, the people who I know who have learned how do develop in C/AL have either taught themselves by example, or in my case learned development in a different environment (In my case Pascal at univerity) & then applied what I had learned about statement structures to Navision. I am not aware of any websites that specifically give examples on C/AL coding. Aside from Navision.Net, it may be worth checking out some of the other Navision user group web sites, such as mynavision.net or navisioner.com for tips & tricks. Another good place to look is the NCSD pdfs. Navision US/CA has them on their site, and they are accessible to anyone on the US/CA partner networks. If you don’t have access to them, I’d suggest making noise to whoever runs the partner network you’re under and getting them to put them up there for you. It’s essentially (exactly) the same as the NF 2.50 NCSD course, and they may have updated it to the latest Attain version. There are two days in the copy I have that deal with reports (Basic and Advanced).
